4. Why does the Advanced MPDI start at $102,000?
Social Security taxes are collected on all earned income up $102,000. The mandatory investment in SSWIFT is designed to offset future Social Security short falls. Since future Social Security benefits are pegged to income earned each year there is no point in doubling the pay out on that income.
The idea for SSWIFT originally came from a news story about a bank president earning $10,000,000 in 2007. I asked myself, "Was there away for this person's income to have contributed to the overall common good of all the American people?" The answer came in the form not of a tax, but as a mandatory investment in a form of a Social Security benefit not presently contemplated.
In other words, SSWIFT was the answer.
